Mid-October in Gdańsk means temperatures between 6°C and 13°C (43–55°F). Cool Baltic autumn weather with short days. The venue is indoors, but bring warm layers for walking between your hotel and AmberExpo.

The Venue: AmberExpo

AmberExpo is Gdańsk's main exhibition and convention centre — modern facilities in the Letnica district, about 5 km northeast of the Old Town. It sits next to the Polsat Plus Arena (Poland's largest indoor arena) and is well connected by tram.

What's nearby:

  • Polsat Plus Arena — right next door, a major sports and events venue
  • Hotel Arena Expo — within walking distance
  • Letnica district — residential area with basic amenities
  • Old Town (Główne Miasto) — 5 km southwest, reachable by tram in 15–20 minutes

Important: The venue area is functional but not a tourist zone. Stay nearby for convenience or in the Old Town for atmosphere — the tram connection is straightforward.

Where to Stay

Gdańsk is compact and affordable. You can stay near the venue for race-day convenience, or in the stunning Old Town for the full Gdańsk experience. The tram ride between the two areas takes about 15–20 minutes. Hotels in both areas are significantly cheaper than Western European equivalents.

Mariacka Street — the most photographed street in Gdańsk, with amber shops and cafe terraces. Beautiful for an evening walk and dinner.

Polish & Gdańsk Food to Try

  • Pierogi — Polish dumplings with various fillings: meat, cheese & potato (ruskie), sauerkraut & mushroom, or sweet versions with berries. Available everywhere
  • Żurek — sour rye soup served in a bread bowl with sausage and egg. Hearty, warming, and perfect for autumn
  • Golonka — slow-roasted pork knuckle with crispy skin. A northern Polish specialty, often served with mustard and horseradish
  • Fresh fish — Gdańsk is a Baltic port city. Smoked fish, herring, and cod are local staples
  • Pączki — Polish doughnuts filled with rose jam or custard. A must-try from any bakery

Budget eating: Look for bar mleczny (milk bars) — traditional Polish canteens serving full meals for 15–25 PLN (€3.50–6). Kebab shops are everywhere with meals for 20–25 PLN. Supermarkets (Biedronka, Żabka, Lidl) have cheap prepared food.
