HYROX Birmingham marks the debut of HYROX in England's second city — and the venue is the NEC (National Exhibition Centre), one of the UK's largest and most well-equipped event spaces. The NEC sits near Birmingham Airport with purpose-built hotels right on-site, making race-day logistics about as easy as they get. Birmingham itself has undergone a major transformation in recent years, with a revitalised canal district, thriving food scene, and a proud industrial heritage worth exploring.

The Venue: NEC

The NEC is one of the largest exhibition centres in Europe — over 180,000 sqm of event space near Birmingham Airport and the M42 motorway. It's purpose-built for major events with multiple on-site hotels and excellent transport links.

What's nearby:

  • Resorts World & Genting Hotel — attached to the NEC complex, 5-minute walk
  • Hilton Metropole — on the NEC campus, connected by covered walkway
  • Birmingham Airport (BHX) — 5-minute drive
  • Birmingham city centre — 20 minutes by train from Birmingham International station
  • Free parking — available at the NEC

Where to Stay

The NEC has purpose-built hotels right on the campus — you can walk from your room to the race floor without leaving the complex. Birmingham city centre is 20 minutes by train if you want restaurants and nightlife, but for race-day simplicity, staying at the NEC is hard to beat.

Where to Eat

At the NEC/Resorts World: Resorts World has 18 restaurants covering everything from Italian to Japanese, plus bars and casual dining. You won't need to leave the campus if you don't want to.

Birmingham city centre: Take the train to New Street and explore. The Mailbox and Brindleyplace along the canals have excellent restaurants. Digbeth is the indie food scene hotspot.

British & Birmingham Food to Try

  • Balti — Birmingham invented the balti curry in the 1970s. The Balti Triangle in Sparkbrook is world-famous for this spiced, wok-style curry served in a steel bowl
  • Full English breakfast — eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, toast, tomatoes, mushrooms, and black pudding. The ultimate pre-race fuel (the day before, not race morning)
  • Fish and chips — battered cod or haddock with thick-cut chips and mushy peas. A British classic
  • Sunday roast — roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, and gravy. If your race falls on a Sunday, find a pub
  • Cadbury chocolate — Bournville, home of Cadbury, is in Birmingham. Cadbury World is a 20-minute drive from the NEC

Budget eating: Supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsbury's, Aldi) have meal deals for £3—5. Greggs bakery is a British institution for cheap, hot food.
