The Venue: Fira Barcelona Gran Vía

Fira Barcelona Gran Vía is one of Europe's largest and most modern exhibition centres — over 240,000 sqm of event space in L'Hospitalet, just southwest of Barcelona city centre. It hosts Mobile World Congress and other major international events.

What's nearby:

  • Fira 2 metro station — direct metro access on Line L8
  • Europa | Fira metro station — Line L9 Sud, connecting to the airport
  • Plaça d'Espanya — 10 minutes by metro, gateway to Montjuïc
  • Barcelona city centre — 20—25 minutes by metro

Where to Stay

Hotels in the immediate Fira area are purpose-built for event visitors — functional and convenient. For atmosphere, restaurants, and nightlife, stay in central Barcelona (Gothic Quarter, Eixample, or El Born) and take the metro to the venue. The metro connection is excellent — about 20 minutes from the city centre.

El Born & Gothic Quarter — narrow medieval streets packed with tapas bars, wine bars, and restaurants. The best area for eating and drinking in Barcelona.

Barcelona Food to Try

  • Pa amb tomàquet — bread rubbed with ripe tomato, olive oil, and salt. On every table in Catalonia. Simple and addictive
  • Patatas bravas — fried potato cubes with spicy bravas sauce and aioli. Barcelona's favourite tapa
  • Bombas — deep-fried potato balls filled with meat, topped with bravas sauce. Invented in Barcelona's Barceloneta neighbourhood
  • Fideuà — like paella but made with short noodles and seafood. A Catalan coastal classic
  • Crema catalana — custard dessert with a caramelized sugar top. The Catalan version of crème brûlée

Budget eating: Tapas bars serve small plates for €3—6. The menú del día (fixed lunch menu) offers 3 courses with a drink for €12—16. Supermarkets (Mercadona, BonPreu) are everywhere.

Essential Barcelona Tips

Currency. Euro (EUR). Spain is in the eurozone.

Cash vs card. Cards accepted almost everywhere. Contactless is standard. Keep some cash for market stalls and small bars.

Tipping. Not expected. Rounding up or leaving small change is polite but not obligatory.

Language. Catalan and Spanish (Castilian). English spoken in hotels and tourist areas. Basic Spanish helps in local restaurants.

Weather in mid-November. Highs around 17°C (63°F), lows around 10°C (50°F). Cool and sometimes rainy. Bring a jacket and a light waterproof layer.

Pickpockets. Barcelona has a well-known pickpocket problem, especially on La Rambla, in the metro, and at tourist sites. Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings.

Safety. Generally safe apart from pickpocketing.

What to See

  • Sagrada Família — Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece, under construction since 1882. Book tickets online well in advance
  • Park Güell — Gaudí's colourful mosaic-covered park with panoramic views over the city. Timed entry required
  • Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) — medieval streets, the cathedral, and hidden squares. Get lost — that's the point
  • La Barceloneta — the beach neighbourhood. Seafood restaurants, a long sandy beach, and the W Hotel sail-shaped tower
  • Montjuïc — hilltop fortress and gardens with views over the city and port. Home to the Joan Miró Foundation and the Olympic stadium
  • Camp Nou — FC Barcelona's home stadium, currently undergoing renovation. Check if tours are available during your visit
