Early July in Hangzhou is hot and humid: highs around 33--35°C (91--95°F), lows around 25°C (77°F). This is the tail end of the plum rain season (meiyu), so afternoon thunderstorms are possible. Bring light, breathable clothing and an umbrella. Indoor racing will be air-conditioned.

Currency. Chinese Yuan Renminbi (CNY / CN\u00a5).
Cash vs card. China is the most mobile-payment-dependent country in the world. WeChat Pay and Alipay are used for nearly everything. International visitors can now link Visa/Mastercard to Alipay — set this up before your trip. Cash is accepted but increasingly rare.
Tipping. Not customary in China. Do not tip at restaurants, taxis, or hotels. It can cause confusion.
Language. Mandarin Chinese. English is limited outside international hotels and tourist attractions. Download a translation app (Google Translate or Baidu Translate) and have key phrases ready. Hotel reception staff at international chains speak English.
