HYROX Nice brings the race to the French Riviera — and it's hard to think of a better setting for a fitness weekend. The venue is the Palais des Expositions, just minutes from the sea and the famous Promenade des Anglais. Late October on the Côte d'Azur still means mild weather, Mediterranean light, and some of the best food in France. Race hard, recover on the beach, eat socca — Nice delivers.

The Venue: Palais des Expositions de Nice

The Palais des Expositions sits in the western part of Nice, near the airport and close to the Promenade des Anglais. It's accessible by tram (Line 2, Grand Arénas stop) and well connected to the city centre.

What's nearby:

  • Nice Côte d'Azur Airport — 5 minutes by car, directly connected by tram
  • Promenade des Anglais — the famous seafront promenade, about 10 minutes by tram
  • Nice city centre & Old Town — 15—20 minutes by tram (Line 2)
  • Arénas business district — immediately adjacent, with some hotels

Where to Stay

Nice is compact and well-connected by tram. We recommend staying in the city centre — you'll be close to the beach, restaurants, and nightlife, with a quick tram ride to the venue. The tram takes about 15—20 minutes from the city centre to the Palais des Expositions.

Where to Eat

Cours Saleya — Nice's famous outdoor market in the Old Town. Flowers, produce, and food stalls daily (except Monday, when it's an antiques market). The best place to eat local.

Vieux Nice (Old Town) — narrow streets packed with restaurants, bars, and gelato shops. This is where you'll find authentic Niçois cuisine.

Niçois Food to Try

  • Socca — chickpea flour flatbread cooked in a wood-fired oven. Crispy, simple, and uniquely Niçois. Best from Chez Thérésa at Cours Saleya
  • Salade niçoise — the original: tomatoes, green beans, boiled eggs, tuna, olives, and anchovies. No lettuce in the authentic version
  • Pissaladière — onion tart with anchovies and olives on bread dough. Like a Provençal pizza
  • Ratatouille — stewed vegetables (aubergine, courgette, peppers, tomatoes) cooked in olive oil and herbs. A Provençal classic
  • Pan bagnat — a salade niçoise in a round bread roll, soaked in olive oil. The ultimate picnic food

Budget eating: Bakeries (boulangeries) have sandwiches and pastries for €3—6. Socca vendors sell portions for €3—5. Supermarkets (Carrefour City, Casino) are scattered across the city.

Essential Nice Tips

Currency. Euro (EUR). France is in the eurozone.

Cash vs card. Cards accepted almost everywhere. Contactless is standard. Keep some cash for market stalls and socca vendors.

Tipping. Service is included (service compris). Rounding up is polite but not expected.

Language. French. English is spoken in hotels and tourist areas. Basic French helps in local restaurants. Merci and bonjour go a long way.

Weather in late October. Highs around 19°C (66°F), lows around 12°C (54°F). Mild and often sunny. Bring a light jacket for evenings.

Safety. Nice is generally safe. Standard precautions around busy tourist areas and the beach.

What to See

  • Promenade des Anglais — the iconic 7 km seafront promenade. Walk, run, or simply sit on the famous blue chairs and watch the Mediterranean
  • Vieux Nice (Old Town) — baroque architecture, narrow streets, colourful buildings, and the best food in the city
  • Castle Hill (Colline du Château) — climb the stairs (or take the elevator) for panoramic views over Nice, the coast, and the Alps
  • Musée Matisse — dedicated to Henri Matisse, who lived in Nice for decades. Set in a 17th-century villa in the Cimiez neighbourhood
  • Cours Saleya market — daily flower and food market in the Old Town. Open Tuesday to Sunday
  • Monaco — the principality is just 20 minutes by train. Visit the casino, the palace, and the harbour
